About

"I can turn the world upside down every day - that's what I love about my work".

With imagination, humor and cute characters, Claudia Hoffmann-Kaeufer creates little worlds for little people. Inspired by nature with all its facets, many soft, natural shapes can be found in her work. Her characters go through many emotions and sometimes find themselves in curious situations. Rough brushstrokes and fine textures are a significant part of her style.

But the path to becoming a children's book illustrator was not linear. Claudia Hoffmann-Kaeufer lives and works in Germany. She graduated in 2008 as a fashion designer at the AMD (Academy of Fashion and Design) Düsseldorf, one of the most famous fashion schools in Germany.

From 2009 to 2019 she worked as an independent fashion and costume designer, most recently for the Grusellabyrinth NRW (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). Through the collaboration there with the concept designer Holger Schliemann (Holger Montgomery) and inspired by her daughter, the desire to work as an illustrator arose.

At the beginning of 2022 Claudia Hoffmann-Kaeufer illustrated the first children's book "Do I have to?" Written by Heather Joy Sharon. Three more books followed, which are still to be published. Claudia enjoys working as a team with the authors/ graphic designers/ art directors. This allows sketches, processes and partial results to be discussed and improved.

"When your own ideas merge with those of others, something brand new is being created!"
